Financial Aid for Veterinary Treatment

Riverside Veterinary Care is a private veterinary clinic and is unable to offer discounts to clients on low income. However, we understand that veterinary treatment can become expensive and we do all we can to help you with the costs.

Blue Cross/RSPCA

These charities do not routinely give assistance to clients on low income, but may sometimes award sums of money for the treatment of pets which urgently need veterinary attention. These payments are usually a one-off sum and are paid directly to the vet.

The RSPCA has a clinic in Merthyr Tydfil which provides low cost veterinary treatment for eligible clients. This clinic currently covers certain postcodes in Merthyr, Aberdare, and Pontypridd only. Some areas in Rhymney may be eligible. Up to three pets may be registered.

Cats Protection

Cats Protection is a charity devoted to the re-homing, welfare, and neutering of pet cats. Vouchers for neutering cats can be obtained from their Gwent Branch. They may also give assistance with trapping feral cats, or re-homing cats.

Insurance

Riverside encourages insurance for pet animals. As well as providing peace of mind if your pet is injured or becomes unwell, insurance can also help you with searching for missing pets, pay for kennelling if you are taken into hospital, holiday cancellation costs if you cannot go away due to your pets illness, and third party liability.

Always look carefully at the terms of insurance - policies differ greatly in the level and duration of cover that they offer. Riverside are agents for Pet Plan Insurance, having been trained in the benefits and limitations of each type of policy, and being aurthorised to help you fill in claim forms. We can also give more general advice on other types of policy.

Pet Health Plans

At Riverside we also offer to help owners to budget for the routine costs of caring for their pets. With a monthly direct debit payment plan you can spread the cost of vaccinations and flea and worm treatments across the year. Pet Health Plans also offer additional benfits, with a free 6 monthly health check, unlimited free nurse clinics - including claw clipping and anal gland expression, and discounts on other treatments such as kennel cough vaccinations, dental treatments and neutering.
