Clare Clift BSc RVN PGCE
I came to Riverside as a qualified nurse in 2004. Before that I had done a degree in Zoology at Cardiff Met. I then went on to do my Veterinary nurse training in another practice where I worked for while after I was qualified. I worked full time at Riverside for many years but more recently I have become a lecturer for veterinary nursing at Usk College. I now do 2 or 3 days a week in practice as well as the lecturing and I have completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I am also a Clincal Coach for students in practice, although I do less of this now that I am part time.
There are many aspects to veterinary nursing but overall it is wonderful to be able to do a job where we get to cuddle animals and get paid for it. I chose this career because I love animals so being able to spend time with them every day is the greatest reward.
As a child we had cats and gerbils, and I started helping out at the local riding stables when I was about 8 years old. I now have a cat and 4 rescued rabbits at home. As well as a dove that seems to have adopted me after I took care of it for a while. I like to take on animals in need, or ones that find me.
I love being out doors, and to relax I spend my time renovating old caravans and taking them away to rallies. I would love to start my own business, maybe involving the caravans. I spend a lot of time reading too, I like crime an thriller books, and am a great fan of Terry Pratchett.
